What is an RFP?

RFP is short for Request for Proposal. An RFP document allows one to request competitive bids from potential vendors for desired products and services.

An RFP should include information about your organization, your project goals, and your project's scope of work (SOW) as well as questions that will distinguish the differences between competing vendors.

An RFP should also request specific cost quotes for both initial and ongoing costs of the product or service.

Before you create an RFP, consider how you plan to evaluate the responses. Expertise, references, and portfolio samples of similar projects are a few items that should have a considerable value when evaluating the responses. It is much easier to take the time to create an RFP than to analyze multiple proposals or quotes in a non-universal format.

The "Sample Request for Proposal Outlines" have a lot of good information to help you evaluate companies for your marketing, web design, or programming projects. The questions in the RFP outlines allow you to compare the responses more easily, and will make it very difficult for a firm to misrepresent themselves.
